Vocal Therapy
"The rhythm of the body,
the melody of the mind, and the harmony of the soul create
the symphony of life." - B.K.S. Iyengar
In my work with people over
many years employing both talk therapy and the study of
music and the vocal instrument, I have found that the
challenges and the rewards of each path have much in common.
The Body/Mind connection is the foundation for what ails us
and also what can heal us.
I work with singers who
have vocal injuries, struggles, and limitations, including
vocal fatigue, nodes, acid reflux complications, TMJ,
serious allergies, and chronic laryngitis. We work in a
variety of ways, using classic vocal therapy techniques, and
careful nurturing of the instrument to a higher functioning
level, at a pace tailored to the individual.
I believe that the greatest
effect is achieved using an in-depth holistic process,
embracing both vocal and talk therapy, adding the component
of working through the emotional and psychological struggles
that are contributing to constraints in the voice. The
performer is then able to bring new understanding and power
into his or her life, art, and career.
